As Ma Tong, I have 6 shock cavalry and 2 melee cavalry with the rest being sabre militia to hold a line. Fun battles. As Sun Jian, I have a balanced army with crossbows, shock cav and mercenary axes to hold the line. WebJan 26, 2013 · My standard army is a general, 0-2 light/yari cavalry, 4-6 bow samuri, 4-6 yari ashigaru, 4-5 melee samurai, using some yari ashigaru to shield the initial charge and the rest to hold the flanks. I would advise to focus on previously mentioned untis however. For ranged units bow ronin are your best bet but not needed. Otomo's donderbuss is best range cavalry unit i use and also the best matchlock unit ever due you can quickly place them wherever you want. In hill terrain this composition is like creating a human fortress.
WebI generally like to use 2-4 cav units depending on my army composition, income etc. I also usually take 4-6 archer units with flaming arrows ability. I tend to play Shimazu or date so I usually favor swordsmen but choose what you're comfortable with. Even yari ashigaru are solid if n spear wall before the lines meet.
